British Inclusive Golf are working with Nick Smith from Ossett who was left paralysed from the waist down after a freak illness. Nick who used to play off 16 has not picked up a golf club in anger for many years and now thanks to British Inclusive Golf was back on the course at Longley park on Tuesday afternoon. Cerise Booth Chairperson of BIG had arranged a session with the OTTOBOCK Paragolfer as a trial to see if this great piece of engineering could help Nick in his quest to return to the game he once loved.
Nick was a bit apprehensive at first in getting to the standing position but soon mastered it, and eventually played the first hole a 246 yard Par 4 completing it in 9 strokes including holing out on the green.
The Charity now has an aim along with Nick to raise the £16,000 needed to buy a machine that will not only benefit Nick but others who are in a similar position.
